Fall in Charleston is the perfect time to enjoy cooler weather and a variety of events, festivals, and celebrations. We have put together a list of some of our favorites that you won’t want to miss!

Fulton Lane

Charleston Farmers’ Market

When: Saturdays April 8-November 25, 2023

Where: Marion Square-329 Meeting Street

You will find a variety of local produce, plants, herbs, and cut flowers as well as breakfast and lunch vendors, live entertainment, and an assortment of juried arts and crafts from local artisans every Saturday at the Market.

First Friday Art Walks

First Fridays Artwalks

When: September 1, October 6, November 3 | 5-8 pm

Where: Various locations in Downtown Charleston

One of Charleston’s best traditions, First Friday Artwalks are a way of debuting the city’s vibrant art scene. This special occasion occurs on the first Friday of every month (excluding January and July) and highlights dozens of art galleries and studios across the entire city. This is your chance to check out local art studios and mingle with local artists.

Lowcountry Jazz Festival

When: September 2-3

Where: Charleston Gaillard Center

This annual two-day music festival is a Charleston Labor Day weekend tradition.

Dancing on the Cooper

When: September 16 | 7-10:30 pm

Where: Mount Pleasant Pier

If you’re looking for some fun summer entertainment, head over to the Mount Pleasant Pier where you can enjoy an evening of dancing to a variety of music. This month, guests can groove to popular hits from the 80s and 90s. The pier is located on the Cooper River, which provides an incredible view of the city skyline while you dance the night away. 50 Years of Folly

When: September 22-October 1.

Where: Folly Beach

Celebrate 50 years at one of the city’s most popular spots this September. Despite expanding and growing in size, the island has kept its laid-back beach vibe that has made it so popular. Originally a small fishing town, this popular tourist spot is spending September celebrating the past half century with a variety of activities. From car shows to galas, there is something that people of all ages can enjoy. Be sure to purchase tickets to each event to secure your spot for this must-see celebration!

MOJA Art Festival

When: September 28-October 8, 2023

Where: Various Locations

Moja meaning “individual” in Swahili, is a multi-disciplinary festival that highlights the rich history of African-American and Caribbean Arts and their contributions to Western and International Cultures. Festivities will include visual arts, classical music, dance, gospel, jazz, poetry, music, storytelling, theatre, children’s activities, crafts, ethnic food, and more.

The Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze

When: September 29-October 29, 2023

Where: Boone Hall Plantation

Are you looking for the perfect family-friendly fall activity? Look no further. Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch has something for everyone. Since 1997, this nearly one-month-long fall festival has become an autumn tradition that brings people of all ages together for a day of good old-fashioned fun on the farm. Enjoy a Halloween tractor tour, corn maze, petting zoo, pony rides, inflatable slide and obstacle course, and more! Before you go home, don’t forget to pick out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.

Autumn on the Ashley

Where: Magnolia Plantation

Widely considered one of the best date night ideas, Magnolia Plantation plays host to this popular wine event. Spend the evening surrounded by the beautiful scenery at Magnolia Plantation with wine and light bites from local vendors. This popular event also includes live music and tours throughout the gardens of the plantation. This event is perfect for new couples wanting to get away from the busy city for the evening and stroll through beautiful gardens with some complimentary wine.

Drayton Hall

Indigo Dyeing Workshop at Drayton Hall

When: September 30 | 10 am

Where: Drayton Hall

Join us for an immersive indigo dyeing workshop at Drayton Hall to close out September. Led by experienced instructor Caroline Harper, participants have the chance to learn about the art of dyeing fabric with indigo. Learn the meticulous process of dye preparation, fabric treatment, and application in the tranquil setting of Drayton Hall. At the end of this experience, you’ll take home your own unique, hand-dyed scarf.

Darius Rucker curated this popular event that features the country’s hottest new artists such as Lainey Wilson and Band of Horses. Riverfront Revival is poised to become a heartfelt ode to both the vibrant world of country music and the rich tapestry of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. Drayton Hall

Sip & Stroll at Drayton Hall

When: October 7th, 28th

Where: Drayton Hall

Guests have the opportunity to the historic Charleston Home Drayton Hall. A must-see stop in the city, this event allows guests to stroll throughout the property, learning about the history, while enjoying light bites and drinks (including some from our local breweries). You will also receive a complimentary wine glass or koozie to remember the wonderful evening. 2nd Sunday on King Street

2nd Sunday on King Street

When: October 8th and November 12th, 2023

Where: King Street from Queen to Calhoun

Every second Sunday of the month from noon until 5 pm, the City of Charleston shuts down King Street from Queen to Calhoun to through traffic. In addition, no cars are allowed to park, giving pedestrians the ability to stroll through the street and visit businesses they might not have known about. There are also artists displaying their work on the street and unique food vendors tempting guests with their fare.

The Fall Tours offerings are designed to maximize the educational experience for guests while minimizing impacts on the historic district. Guests taking the Piazzas and Garden Tour will go beyond the garden gate and onto the porches and piazza of some of Charleston’s finest homes. The Insider’s Garden Tour is designed for the garden enthusiast and will be led by notable professionals such as landscape architects, garden designers, and horticulturalists. Other tours include Insider’s Architecture Tours, Specialty Tours, Historic Walking Tours, and more.

Oktoberfest in the Holy City is a vibrant celebration of German culture that brings a taste of Bavaria to the heart of our state. Locals and visitors don traditional lederhosen and dirndls as they gather to celebrate. One of the city’s most popular events, guests can enjoy live music, authentic German food, and a Biergarten with local craft beers. Included in this lively festival is also a German bakery, and visits by our local leaders. As the lively band sets the tone, visitors can partake in games, dance the polka, and immerse themselves in the cheerful atmosphere that makes Oktoberfest in Charleston a truly unforgettable cultural celebration.

The 10th Annual Charleston Beer Week will promote Charleston’s craft beer community as a whole and be comprised of 50+ different events, over 10 days, taking place all over the Charleston tri-county area. Guests can expect a little bit of everything: beer dinners, special releases, brewery events, educational events, food pairings, meet the brewers, outdoor events, style showcase, tap takeovers, festivals, and charity fundraisers.

The Charleston Literary Festival is a boutique literary festival that highlights and celebrates unique authors in unique settings. Venues this year include the Dock Street Theatre and the new International African American Museum.
