Charleston is one of the most profound places in the U.S. to honor Black History Month. From the music in our halls to the very bricks in our foundations, the story of our city is inseparable from the African American experience.
This February, we invite you to move beyond the guidebooks. Whether it`s standing on the historic ground of the @iaamuseum or hearing the living history of the Gullah people, there are meaningful ways to connect with the resilience and achievements that built the Lowcountry. The Explore Black Charleston website is an excellent resource. We have linked to them in our Black History guide in our bio....
We are excited to announce the promotion of Zoe Mincey at Circa 1886 Restaurant to Sous Chef!
Zoe’s culinary journey began here in South Carolina, learning to cook at the kitchen counter with her mom from a young age. After moving to Charleston in 2019 to pursue her education, she was drawn to the city’s vibrant food scene and quickly found where she belonged.
Joining Circa 1886 in 2024 as a roundsman, Zoe’s talent, drive, and versatility quickly set her apart. As Executive Chef Marc Collins shares, “Zoe has an incredible ability to step into any station—from Garde Manger to the hot line and even Pastries—always striving for the perfect plate, making her promotion a natural next step for the team.”
Today, Zoe brings creativity, passion, and heart to every dish she helps craft. Please join us in congratulating her as she helps lead the next chapter at Circa 1886.

While the city draws its biggest crowds in June (which we love), there’s a quieter kind of magic in January and February for visitors and locals alike. The air is crisp (sometimes a little too crisp for our Southern blood), oyster roasts are in full swing, and the streets are strollable—humidity-free.
Winter in the `Holy City` is the season for slow mornings and slipping into historic corners to warm up out of the breeze. And with a chance of snowflake or two in the forecast, there’s no better moment to experience the city at its quietest.
If you’re looking for a true winter sanctuary, Wentworth Mansion® is the perfect home base for a cold-weather Charleston escape. Think original gas fireplaces, afternoon wine, evening sherry, and steeple views softened by the low winter sun.
Who says Dry January has to be dull? Whether you’re taking a break from alcohol or embracing year-round wellness, Charleston offers plenty of refined options for spirit-free cocktails and alcohol-removed wines—including at @circa1886
Circa 1886’s sommelier and bar manager have thoughtfully curated a beverage program that delivers elegance, balance, and flavor without compromise.
